Tom Dwan Tom Dwan

Been awake a while, and played a ton in the last 3 days. I had a pretty awful week of poker before that, where i lost about $1.9m- mainly to ziigmund, but in the last week i’ve managed to recoup those losses. I’d like to think that the losses had a good amount to do with some bad luck, but i know the wins definitely had to do with good luck. I played ilari at 500/1k where we had to raise and reraise every hand- so before any option the small blind makes it 3k, and the big blind makes it 9k. This is obviously a retardedly huge game, and both of us should probably be playing at least a little bit smaller. I managed to win about 800k at 3/9 tho- so it worked out this time. Today i played another long session of mainly mixed games, including some very interesting hands (mainly in no limit and plo since limit games suck). One of the biggest hands of the day for me was a pretty large cooler vs. Patrik. He raised on the button, and i called with my moderate holding. I flopped an overpair and flush draw, and decided to check call instead of betting or check raising. I turned top set, for the 2nd nuts to go with a flush draw. I was planning on check raising the turn, but definitely could’ve changed my mind and check called to trap. Patrik checked behind however, but i got one of the 2 rivers patrik can’t get away from. If Patrik had KKT6 or something like that, i think he folds the river to my shove some smallish amount of the time. And i need to give Patrik credit- with a hand that should never fold he thought for about 1 minute b/c he was obviously extra worried he was beat. However its hard to fold when there’s literally only 2 combos i can have that beat him, and when i’m shoving T86 myself for value, along w/ tons of random T8/T3/83 combos, and maybe some bare 6s (the latter 2 as bluffs obviously.)

I don’t know if this hand will show up here, but i’ll post the raw hh just in case (and convert later). Too tired now to try to figure it out. This was a very hectic session for me, as i was playing 6-9 tables most of the time, with 1/2 or more of the games being mixed. I think its much harder to deal with 5 mixed tables than it is to deal with 10 plo or nl tables. Anyway it worked out well, and i won a few hundred k.

As I’ve noticed myself repeatedly dozing off midsentence, it seems clear this blog must come to an end.

Adios n stuff

You ever go down levels. I hate it… Cheers See ya around

I just discovered today your blog… and read that you are closing it. Bad news, but totally aceptable, there is no time for all.

I would just suggest to post when you want to do it, not like an obligation, even a short post, that would be interesting for us, your followers.

Good luck, take rest and hope see you soon here

i would like to see you play more hands instead of online poker hands, you buy way to much which is something that i cant stand in a poker player, the only reason you win is you buy them that tells me that you do not have much confidence in your hands otherwise you might play them more often. we call people like you poker bullies cause the only way you win most of your hands is buying the pot, PLY SOME REAL POKER SOMETIME< maybe then you can earn my respect.

    Hi Tom,

I think you are an AMAZING poker player. I enjoy watching you on Poker After Dark and was glad to see you at the table this week and last week. I think you are the best player at the table.

I laughed when Phil Helmuth said at the end of the show that he, “played poker beautifully” and Daniel? Negraneu’s response was hysterical. I was thinking, what is Phil talking about…playing beautifu poker? Is he kidding? I think he’s the worst player at the table. Although he has gotten a lot of lousy hands.

I think to myself if you are this good at twenty-two, imagine where you’ll be in ten years. There have been so many times when I have said out loud, “Don’t fold, Tom,” when you had better hands than Phil Ivey or Patrick Antonius. Usually, you don’t. But every now and then, you fold, when they’re holding a worse hand.

By the way, where are you from and how did you learn to play so well at such a young age?

    Cara

    Hi Tom,

I just found your blog and will be reading regulary from now on since I really respect you like almost no one else as a poker player.

I am just trying to convert to cashgames, so far I have been a low limit sng and mtt player. I had been staked for a while and now that I am playing on my own again I try to find the most effective way for myself to make money at this game. I somehow dont want to just grind mtts and sngs anymore, even though I am doing ok there. Though I know I def still have alot to learn in cashgames, probably going to subscribe to bluefire soon. I started with 0.25/0.50 PLO HU cash this month and moved up to 0.50/1 after a while.

Currently I am on almost a 2K downswing which really sucks, though I am still up about 1.8K for the month. I dont know which swings are normal in PLO HU cash but regardless of whats normal, I def had been playing bad last couple of days for a few reasons.

Anyways as I said Ill keep checking your blog from now on. If you are writing a poker book one day, please let me know :D no seriously I really hope you will do that at some point.

    Good Luck!

    Linc

Hey Tom, I think It’s really pathetic how players such as Laak and Eli constantly fold to your bets when they have the better hand. It’s as if they completely forget all of your past bluffs and almost always give you credit for having the best hand. Your a good player indeed, its just too sick to see how all these pros seem to forget how to play when its against you; as if they are only in a hand with you to try and hold on and hope that you want bet too much even knowing how likely you are to be bluffing. you just want to scream at players like Phill Laak ” grow some balls already” excuse my French. Anyway, keep doing what you do best and maybe one day someone will grow a pair and go with there read and not simply try to hold on calling until you bet an amount they cant stomach; you make players like the aforementioned look like beginners. I would love to see the look on some of their faces when they see some of your crazy bluffs on T.V. such as that $80,000+ bluff you made against Laak on PAD recently. I have to admit I was pulling for the guy to man up and go with his read, but of course, it appears he didn’t have the heart to make a good call; I cannot stand Phil Laak’s game.
