Hiya.
And welcome to my new blog. So I’m gonna try to post a bunch, but I’m usually busy and since writing isn’t exactly my favorite pastime, this might not work out too well… we’ll see.
Since this is my Full Tilt Poker blog, I’d like to thank them for adding me to the team. It’s an honor to be a part of such a talented group. I’m really looking forward to winning a buncha tourneys with this patch on.
So anyway, onto something I can write a whole blog about… the first things that come to mind are kite surfing and skydiving, so I’ll start there.
I recently spent a week and a half in Spain, hopping around between the beaches and Barcelona. I saw a bunch of kite surfers off of the beach in Marbella, and they totally blew me away. The stunts these guys could do were pretty sick, and I’d like to get somewhat into the sport, at least until I break something…
On to safer activities… I’m getting the urge to go skydiving again. I’ve been twice before in Las Vegas, though I had a slightly different experience each time. The first time I jumped was early in the morning after a crazy night out. I was exhausted the night before, having not slept in 24 hours, and was planning to crash before 11pm. My friend Alan Sass convinced me to go out and meet some friends, and before I knew it we were showing up to SkyDive Las Vegas early the following morning. Still drunk from the night’s activities, we somehow seemed sober enough for them to let us jump. Everyone I knew who had gone skydiving in the past told me how scary it was, but on the way up in the plane I had almost no fear, and thought every moment of it was super awesome.
About a year later, I got a group of friends together to make a jump, remembering how amazing the rush was the time before. This time, I remembered how I had zero fear on my first jump- but with no tequila shots in my system I suddenly realized I was about to fall out of an [expletive] airplane. It was obviously still awesome, though.
I’m actually heading back to London in a few days, and would love to go skydiving while I’m there. I want to see as much of England as I can during my short visit, but I don’t have the time to drive around the country, so I’d rather just jump out of a plane and get a bird’s eye view. On my way down I’ll be pointing things out and going: “That’s cool, that’s cool, that’s cool”.
Speaking of mid-air activities in London, I was recently there and took part in a short helicopter trip. We were heading to what I thought was a Jay-Z concert with Coldplay opening, however in the UK, it was the other way around… news that Patrik and I were not very happy to hear. As way bigger Jay-Z fans, both of us were pretty sad about his shorter set… I thought Patrik was gonna head-butt someone. I wasn’t quite as bothered as he was, but was still pretty disappointed. Regardless, the show was still super sweet. The funniest part of the night was when the helicopter landed in a huge soccer field, and some kids supposedly thought Phil was Jay-Z, which is hilarious if true.
I wanna talk about poker slightly more in at least some of my future entries, and will probably have one about my upcoming heads-up show in London. It’s the FullTilt Poker Durrrr Million Dollar Challenge, starting November 17th in London’s Les Ambassedeurs casino. I’ll post more about that later.
Also, I’ve been playing Isuldur1 a lot lately. He’s a very aggressive player, and there have been some huge swings because of both of our aggressive styles. A month or so from now, I’ll probably be addressing the games in a more detailed entry, but as of now I’ll save that for a later date.

November 13th, 2009 at 6:52 pmIt’s time to join the club and get your license. You will find that your first AFF jump is much different, and later you will find the freedom that only comes from jumping by yourself.
If you want to build up some confidence as you progress through the sport, you should get some time in a wind tunnel with a coach. In Vegas, there’s a place called “Vegas Indoor Skydiving” where you can do this.
Good luck

November 17th, 2009 at 1:11 pmHy Tom, i’m a big fan and am very happy to see you’ve started a blog. It’s pretty cool for all us amateurs to hear from our favourite pros and from my point of view I hope you keep it up!!:) Was interested to see Sammy George taking you up on the million dollar heads up challenge. What do you make of playing such an aggressive player one on one?? Also, everytime I seem to read the poker updates you’re setting a new record for largest pot. Hopefully your next big pot won’t result in a loss like last time out!!:)
Thanks Tom and regards,James Groarke

Congratulations on your membership in Team Full Tilt.
I have watched you play on TV, and have seen some of your interviews, and I would like to ask that you please expand on your thinking when you say that you are not a big fan of folding. In what type of situations do you follow this guidance? Obviously there are times when it is right to fold, and you do fold, but how do make the determination that the time is right?
Thanks Tom, and congratulations on your stellar record!

November 27th, 2009 at 7:29 pmHi Durrr,
I’m a big fan of yours, since you seem like a very nice guy and I’m awed by your poker skills. So I hope you don’t take my question the wrong way… I’ve been railbirding A LOT the last weeks, I may have spend more time than you on the high stakes tables of FT
My question, or rather questions, all have to do with the new ISI phenomenon:
First, are you almost broke? Hate to ask it, but it seems like you lost an awful lot of money…
Second, how do you feel about all this? I can’t imagine loosing so much money, hope you take it well (obv. this question is related to the first one).
Third, why do you keep playing Isi? He doesn’t seem like a soft target. Is it about ego? Is it some prolonged tilt? Or do you really feel you have an edge on him?Anyway, best of luck. I feel guttered you lost to Isi, I was rooting for you, best,
David

December 23rd, 2009 at 2:09 amHey Tom,
Are you certain that some of the high stakes players aren’t colluding to cheat you the way they did Isildur? I think it’s rather suspicious that Antonious is up $9 million while you’re way down. No doubt Townsend and others have cheated more players than Isildur. You should forget about online play and stick to Bobby’s Room.

December 25th, 2009 at 9:54 pmYou knows, after reading this, and you stating, “I’m a proud member of Full Tilt Poker.” I read in an article that you had refused an offer once before because they weren’t offering you the right amount of green. What made you change your mind? The players that they sponsor, such as Phil Ivey, Patrik Antonious, Chris Ferguson, or did they just offer you what you wanted? Just wondering about the whole thing.

December 29th, 2009 at 7:19 pm“Durrrr Million Dollar Challenge” sounds unreal, cant wait to watch.
I dont suppose there is anything coming up agin like “poker after dark” where we can see players interact and see personalities and joking around, also recapping a hand and explaining the thought process, blew my mind.would also like to hear other comments about Tom’s “poker after dark” show.

December 30th, 2009 at 10:33 pmHey! So I am in BC and have been following and playing Texas Holdem for a few years. Phil ivey was my favorite player for quite a while but I have decided Tom Dwan is it now. I haven’t seen any other player with such intensity and agression. When I watch him play I am never bored but amazed. Increadible bluffs too and hero plays….Amazing….I am learning from him!!!

December 31st, 2009 at 12:24 pmPersonally, i’d have to be pushed to get me out of the plane. I can just hear my mind saying “are you crazy im not going out there” and my ego saying “well your here so you better just do it”. How do tell yourself to jump? Is the adrenaline rush from your mind catching up with the fact that you did jump or is it from the fact that your falling?

January 2nd, 2010 at 12:06 pmSorry but i do not have a comment on your blog, but i have a burning question.
In poker afterdark season 6 you lost a hand against Phil Hellmuth
At the river card hellmuth hits a king high flush, you already had a 7 high flush and you checked and Hellmute went all in you thought about 25 seconds, and to my opinion you acted unlike you usually do.
You knew that hellmuth was a little frustrated, i think no wait i almost know for sure that you called and let him win that hand to make him feel better.
Am i wrong?
I really like the way you play, keep it on and good luck!Greetings,
Chris Brandwijk

February 2nd, 2010 at 6:54 pmHi Tom!!
Love watching you play on Poker After Dark.
If writing or blogging isn’t your forte, I’d be happy to help. You dictate or give me a little baseline to work with, I’ll put it together, you approve it, I’ll post it. They payback would be a few personal tips on how to improve my game. Minimal effort on both parts and we both win (if you agree to this, that is?!) Are you game?
Good Luck at the tables . . . and kick Phil Ivey’s ass!!!! in Holdem that is! Now, ‘Get durrrrr dun’ Tom Dwan!
